Incoming correspondence, mainly from Commissioner of General Land Office, Secretary of U.S. Treasury, Surveyor General and private individuals primarily concerns preemption claims, delivery of patents, corrections of Register's certificates and Receiver's accounts, school land selections, sales of Galena town lots, requests for duplicate certificates, corrections and delivery of plats and survey field notes, and general operations of land office. After September 3, 1855, correspondence concerns land within Northwestern District which was received by Springfield Land District Office.
